شبکه اجتماعی HalloApp از روز دوشنبه در اپ استور اپل و پلی استور گوگل منتشر شده و کاربران می‌توانند در آن ثبت نام کنند. HalloApp و واتس‌اپ وجه اشتراک‌های زیادی دارند. این شبکه اجتماعی برای چت خصوصی یا گروهی با دوستان و خانواده ساخته شده، پیام‌ها را رمزنگاری می‌کند و هیچ تبلیغاتی ندارد.
«نیراج آرورا» و «مایکل داناهیو» دو کارمند واتس‌اپ بودند که پس از خرید این شرکت توسط فیسبوک شغل خود را رها کردند و حالا شبکه اجتماعی خودشان را ساخته‌اند. آرورا مدیر ارشد کسب و کار و داناهیو مدیر مهندسی واتس‌اپ بود. آن‌ها فعلا از مصاحبه مفصل درباره HalloApp خودداری کرده‌اند، چون معتقدند که نباید خیلی زود توجهات را به یک برنامه نوپا جلب کرد.
اپلیکیشن HalloApp در پایین صفحه خود چهار زبانه دارد: زبانه Home که پست‌های دوستان شما را نشان می‌دهد، زبانه چت‌های گروهی، زبانه چت‌های خصوصی و زبانه تنظیمات. این اپلیکیشن در زبانه هوم از هیچ الگوریتم رایجی برای اولویت‌بندی نمایش پست‌ها استفاده نمی‌کند. آرورا درباره فلسفه این شبکه اجتماعی می‌گوید:
«فرض کنید دوستان آنلاین شما همان دوستان واقعی‌تان باشند. فرض کنید فید شبکه اجتماعی‌تان پر از پست‌هایی نباشد که اهمیتی برایشان قائل نیستید. فرض کنید همیشه در حال دیدن پست‌های بامعنی هستید و چیزهایی را می‌بینید که واقعا دوست دارید ببینید، نه چیزهایی که الگوریم‌ها دوست دارند به شما نشان دهند. فرض کنید با شما مثل یک محصول رفتار نمی‌شود.»
اپلیکیشن HalloApp در حال حاضر هیچ تبلیغاتی ندارد، اما در آینده بابت ارائه برخی قابلیت‌ها از کاربران هزینه دریافت خواهد کرد. این شرکت در حال حاضر فقط ۱۲ کارمند دارد و هزینه‌های خود را از طریق سرمایه‌هایی تامین می‌کند که از سرمایه‌گذاران به دست آمده‌اند.
